EEG (Electroencephalography) Testing

EEG (Electroencephalography) Testing in Miami

Are you looking for EEG (Electroencephalography) testing in Miami? Wellcare Med Group can perform EEG (Electroencephalography) testing and other diagnostic tests related to neurological health whether your healthcare provider suggested it or an initiative you have taken on your own.

While EEG monitoring is used regularly during brain surgery or to test the brain activity of someone in a coma, It is also common for healthcare providers to recommend EEG testing when a patient suffers from seizures related to epilepsy or other seizures disorders. This type of test can be instrumental in confirming or dismissing a diagnosis and the cause of specific symptoms.

An EEG (Electroencephalography) is a test that detects abnormalities in your brain waves by recording an electrogram or chart over a given period of the brain’s electrical activity. The procedure is 100% painless, noninvasive, and consists of a cap outfitted with electrodes (small metal discs) with monitoring cables attached to them which are then connected to the machine. Sometimes these electrodes are temporarily pasted onto your scalp based on the individual. These susceptible electrodes can detect tiny electrical charges resulting from your brain cells’ activity.

Who needs an EEG (Electroencephalography) Test?

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that detects electrical activity that may be useful in diagnosing brain conditions, especially epilepsy and other seizure disorders. As previously mentioned, there are two types of candidates for this type of test. One is the person seeking an answer about their neurological health and well-being and those who are referred by their general practitioner. That is because a complex organ like the brain can have many problems, even without injury. For example, when an EEG electroencephalogram test is done, especially after sleep deprivation, it may reveal abnormalities in the brain’s electrical activity that may help confirm the diagnosis of epilepsy. Still, it is also important to point out that The Brain Foundation lists infections, autoimmune diseases, seizures, and dementia among the most common neurological conditions doctors see. In other words, there is plenty of room for speculation, but the only way to get an accurate diagnosis is to schedule a consultation with a qualified neurologist.

How long do EEG results take?

The EEG test recording itself takes about 1 to 2 hours. Our in-house neurologist will then analyze the recordings, usually within 48hrs. Send the results to your doctor or schedule an appointment if you are a patient. A more advanced in-home sleep monitoring recording may be recommended based on the findings or the original diagnosis. This type of  EEG may take 48 to 72 hours as the sleep patterns are recorded over multiple sleep sessions.
